(WASHINGTON, DC) Greg Cohen, President and CEO of the American Highway Users Alliance released the following statement this evening:

“On behalf of the millions of motorists and commercial drivers, the American Highway Users Alliance congratulates Congress for overwhelming passage of the bipartisan FAST Act, which will stabilize federal surface transportation programs through 2020. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 83-16 and the House passed it by a vote of 359-65. We are delighted that President Obama will sign the bill into law.

“The highway bill focuses funding on safety projects, highway freight corridors, and the most critical roads and bridges in our National Highway System. The bill also streamlines bureaucracy and expedites permitting, reducing delays that frustrate planners’ attempts to get important safety projects built.

“Americans should be proud that their Congress can still accomplish legislation that matters to people in every part of the country. Perhaps no other piece of domestic policy will do more to benefit Americans than passage of the five-year highway bill. It is an investment in our safety, our communities, our economy, and our mobility.”
