The Highway Users supports a strong, stable national energy plan that keeps mobility affordable for people of all incomes and increases our energy security and independence. A key challenge for America is safely increasing access to the full range of energy available on our lands and offshore. In addition, new technologies are making vehicles more fuel efficient and alternative fuels more affordable. As new resources become available with additional energy access, including oil sands and shale development, we see the potential for a bright and diverse energy future. But many of the same groups that oppose cars, roads, and personal mobility are also lining up to prevent energy access and make fuel unaffordable. Our challenge is to make the public-interest case for affordable, reliable energy.
